Description
The present volume documents the proceedings of a workshop sponsored by the Institute of Fundamental Theory at the University of Florida from February 11-13, 1994. Two thirds of the parameters used to describe the Standard Model come from the Yukawa couplings: nine masses of elementary fermions, three mixing angles, and one CP-violating angle. The articles serve as a wide-ranging introduction to mathematical treatment of quantum physics. There have been many attempts to build theories that explain these numbers, but so far none has proven conclusive. The rich variety of theoretical approaches documented here shows the vitality of this field of research, which offers tantalizing glimpses of physics beyond the Standard Model.
